Tales We Tell

Telling your tale is much like a dog chasing its tail. It keeps you in a loop going round and round and so you must ask, why are you looking behind you instead of looking ahead of you?

And yes, for dogs chasing their tail may be an entertaining for a while. They even seem to enjoy it and feel energized by it, but they eventually tire and know when to move on. Humans spend most of their life chasing their tail, but unlike a dog they sometimes never move on. We all have a story or two about ourselves that we tell over and over again. We can tell our tale for so long we don’t know even know that it’s a story because it has become the fabric of our life and who we think we are. We believe it's true.

You may say:  Fill in the blank.

I’m this or that ___________.

I will never be_____________.

I’m always making this mistake______________ .

I will never get to do this ______________ .

I will never succeed at this____________.

I can never seem to get this right___________.

I will never accomplish ____________.

I’m no good at _____________.

The tales that we tell and tails that we chase became our experience.  They become our story and then they can become our identity. We can not live beyond what we believe we think we can be, do or have.

What tale are you telling?

The first step of freedom is becoming aware of what tales you have spun into a web of your own demise, never feeling the person you want to be or living the life you want to live.

At any moment you can fill in the blank with what you truly want. You can fill in the blank with who you want to be and not a limited a version of the person you have been.
